Fantastic book! It is very thorough. My wife and her family are from Montevideo, Uruguay (Same dialect as Buenos Aires, Argentina... well technically not a dialect) and they use 99% of the words and expressions in this book regularly. I was able to hit the ground running with this book as I'm already an intermediate-advanced level Spanish speaker. I can't honestly speak to how well this book would work for a true novice. This is not the Spanish that you learned in high school, but it isn't so different that you won't understand. The biggest difference is the use of "vos" and it's corresponding conjugation. Make an effort to figure that out and become comfortable with it right away.The Argentines and Uruguayans are famous for their liberal use of their very own brand slang and vulgarity. This book does not cover a lot of it, which is fine. You can find that elsewhere. Frankly you should probably have a handle on the material in this book before you move on to their challenging and often bizarre slang vocabulary.
Quick and simple read giving you an overview of the language. I especially liked the page listing the verb forms/constructions all in one place. I have several Spanish texts, and I've not come across this yet. It was also helpful to understand "vos" and how the conjugations differ from what is taught in regular Spanish classes.
I wish it included more specific intonation points.
