About the Author
Ronet D. Bachman, PhD, worked as a statistician at the Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice, before going back to an academic career; she is now a professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. She is coauthor of Statistical Methods for Criminology and Criminal Justice and coeditor of Explaining Criminals and Crime: Essays in Contemporary Criminal Theory. In addition, she is the author of Death and Violence on the Reservation and coauthor of Stress, Culture, and Aggression; Murder American Style; and Violence: The Enduring Problem; along with numerous articles and papers that examine the epidemiology and etiology of violence, with particular emphasis on women, the elderly, and minority populations as well as research examining desistance from crime. Her most recent federally funded research was a mixed-methods study that examined the long-term desistance trajectories of drug-involved offenders who were released from prison in 1990, followed from 1990 through 1995, and interviewed again in 2009.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to use yellow font in a glossy textbook needs to be fired. All page numbers, bold and glossary terms, section titles are in a yellowish orange font that requires some major overhead lighting if you don’t want to be straining your eyes.There is a severe lack of examples for some tricky concepts.And at one point (and I’m only half way through) the same two sentences were repeated only a paragraph apart. There was no insinuation that it was an important thing to remember. It seemed like I was just a major editing error.So sorry if you get stuck having to use this book for a class. Hopefully your professor will give you some good supplemental material to go with it.
The book was a required purchase for the class I'm taking (criminal research methodology). It has good information and an okay format but it was honestly not very helpful or relevant to the class I am taking. Other reviews say the light colored text is difficult to read so I bought the kindle version instead - which I recommend doing if you plan to purchase this book. I liked that I could highlight and make flashcards since this book has lots of research vocabulary and the format of the book jumps around a lot so having a search bar is a god send
It sucked, I hate college.
