I picked this out for my husband, who teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Programming and Advanced Robotics programming at his high school. One of the projects he has his students work on is to create something using a basic Arduino model. He said that this book is the perfect overview/intro to Arduino, and is, in fact, thinking that he may have his students purchase it as an inexpensive textbook next year.The pros of this book:* breaks everything down into an easy-to-understand process* uses clear, relatable examples* covers the necessary hardware and requirements* includes many (hand-drawn) pictures to illustrate key points* affordableOverall, it's a great way, as the title suggests, to get started with Arduino or to go even more in-depth if you're at a beginner level.
If you are looking for a reference book, this is not it. If you are just getting started with Arduino, this will help you understand the architecture and think creatively about hacking skills. Hacking skills are important if you want to do more than just reproduce other people's projects.
I like this book. There is a lot to learn in this book. I have not read it cover to cover yet but so far information is clearly presented but for programming symbols. But in chapter 4 the programming or sketching was a little awkward without an introduction to the meaning of the symbols used for writing the instructions for the Arduino. A reference of symbols is found in the back of the book but there was no mention of this in chapter 4. That said I would buy it again but I bought other books too since it is always better to get more than one point of view.
Good for someone who wants to learn the basics of Arduino and go through simple functions. I'm someone who would have benefitted more from a higher-level book on Arduino projects, such as power supply controllers, motor drivers, or test and measurement devices. The book does exactly what it says on the cover...gives the experimenter enough resources to get started. There's even a decent practical example in the book - a water level sensor and automated irrigation system. Not my thing, but it's obvious that someone could find worth in it.
I think that it is a very good starting guide. I have read through it one time and am going through again more slowly. There is a lot to try to follow in the coding, at least for me, that I had to go through several times but I liked the way they break up the code into shorter segments instead of doing the whole program in one go.
I'm new to arduino. With the book I had the IDE installed, arduino hooked up, an the blink scetch running. All within 30 minutes. Pretty good for being a noob. The book is well written, plenty of progressive learning. One negitive comment. The book doesn't explan "bouncing". The first couple scetches where using push switches didn't work quite right due to bouncing. WWW is your friend.
A great book for the beginner. Well written, easy to understand.I purchased this from my kindle app. I am ordering this book and the 2nd book soon.So I can hold then in my hands.I ordered the kindle version so I could read it almost instantly,which is great for some books.Some reason a book just reads better if it is a real book. Different strokes for different folks they say.Any thanks for a great book in either format !!
I wanted to know what on earth Arduino was all about. I think this book is a good primer. It gives a little electronic info, a little programming info and how to pull it all together on the Arduino board. I haven't actually tried anything yet but will soon. I'll follow some of the book examples to get my feet wet.
Good first book - I have always had issues with syntax so some of my struggles have been my fault - but over all really well written and explains things - go step by step and you will be fine
