We loved this book in the girl version for our daughter. This is exactly the same but with boys and blue (which is pretty silly really). We were disappointed that the publisher decided to print the sticker chart on the back of the sticker sheet. What a chintzy move. So if you tape the sticker chart up to your bathroom wall or door, you have to keep peeling it off to get the stickers. Lame. They had them separate with our daughter’s book, as they should. Otherwise great book for teaching kids how to use the potty.
My daughter loved the girl version, so now we bought the boy version. There's really no difference between the two other than the colors. I really wish it had a part mentioning the option of standing while peeing and aiming or something
We're potty training our 19-month-old, and he loves this book. I purchased 8 potty training books, and our son self-identifies with Charlie Thomas as this is the only book with a live child on the potty. We aren't using the stickers, but they are more of an afterthought in the book, so not using them doesn't change the impact of this book.
I have so much faith in this book to help my son use the potty. We havent actually started potty training yet. But I went ahead and read it to him and the kid in the book looked in his diaper, then my kid did the same! It was too cute. Pictures are adorable.
This book is good, not great. My son likes to look at the pictures but there's no story. So he gets bored with this one pretty quickly. Good for starting interest in potty training.
My 2 year old twins didn't like it. It's basically showing how a teddy bear uses the bathroom. The sentences were too long for them to sit and pay attention. I did like the stickers on the back, but I thought the book was going to be more about a little boys using the restroom. On top of that, when I tried to return the book, I had to pay $5 shipping, so I would have gotten $2 back for a $7.
This is the first book I used when introducing my then 24 month old "nephew" to toilet training. (I've only found one other book: "The Potty Book for Boys" by A. Capucilli that is worth using. There are some terrible toilet training books for children on the market -- and library shelves.) I like that there are pictures of real children in this book. After "choosing which potty" the story describes the process step-by step -- from sitting down to wiping to washing hands. One plus for SINGLE MOMS is that the book only mentions "mommy." While never picturing an adult, the book speaks of "mommy" saying that Charlie Thomas (the main character) needs underpants and shops for some. All other books I've seen on this topic picture both a mother and father. My "nephew's" father isn't in the picture and so "daddy" or "dad" isn't part of his experience. The only negative I have for this book is that, while throughout the whole book it talked about going "pee or poo," on one page it switches to "tinkle." I don't understand why the author felt s/he needed to use that word once -- but I just continued to use "pee." The chart is on the wall in the bathroom and my nephew gets excited about adding a star to the chart after each "success." (Of course, it helps if the adult is getting really excited about the accomplishment as well.)
