I really like James MacDonald preaching, but I just couldn't get into this book. I found it hard to follow and a bit of a mess. I often finished a chapter and wondered what the point was. I just didn't get it.
I bought this book for my husband. He loves it, when he reads it he laughs, crys and tells me what a awesome book!! I would recommend it for all the men out there.
One of the best books I've ever read. Men are falling down and losing their manhood! This is why Paul said stand up and act like men!
Want to act like a true man after God's image? Look no further than "Act Like Men" by James MacDonald. This is a great study for men who want to be better husbands and true men of God. It tackles issues that we struggle with the most and some that men would rather keep swept under the rug. This book allowed a large group of men at my church to grow together, and learn that we are not in this fight alone. I recommend this book to any man that wants to tackle hard issues in their life and build the kingdom of God.
I read this book every evening. However, there were two major flaws with my approach: I didn't take any notes and I didn't read it with anybody. In my opinion, this book is meant to be read within the context of an accountability group or some small group of guys. There are questions at the end of each chapter with practical applications to each person that reads it. Please, if you're gonna buy it, text a group of guys from your church or something and go through it together. I firmly believe you'll get waaay more out of it this way than reading alone. It's good if reading it by yourself; I believe it has the potential to be life-altering if read and discussed in a close group.
This book maybe great for someone who’s at the beginning of their spiritual growth & not versed in the Bible. The book lacks depth & isn’t for those who are more advanced in their study. I expected more.
Husband has anxiety issues and can be impatient. He has read this book slowly and is going through it for the second time. He watches James McDonald every day and I can honestly say this book has made a difference. He still gets impatient, but is more aware of it now and tries quickly to correct the situation and apologise.
Haven't finished it yet but if you feel lost and like everything is your fault because you're angry or whatever then read this book. Each section is taking like 30 minutes for me even they are only 5-7 page sections.
We are going through this as a small men's group study and love it. Non-condescending and deep enough to bring new revelation. I know there is a shortage of NON-DVD material out there so if you want a book only study, I suggest Act Like Men.
