About the Author
Janet Romich, a longtime veterinarian, teaches a variety of science-based courses at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wis., where she was honored with the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2004 for use of technology in the classroom, advisory and professional activities, publication list, and fundraising efforts. She is also an IACUC member for a hospital research facility and received the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician Association's Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2007 for her contributions to the education of veterinary technician students and in promoting the use of veterinary technicians in the workplace. Dr. Romich is also the author of FUNDAMENTALS OF PHARMACOLOGY FOR VETERINARY TECHNICIANS, 2e and UNDERSTANDING ZOONOTIC DISEASES as well as a co-author on DELMAR'S VETERINARY TECHNICIAN DICTIONARY. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She remains active in veterinary practice through her relief practice, where she works in both small- and mixed-animal practices.

What I was not aware of by the description is this book is designed for students taking the classroom course. Something that the description failed to mention other than "textbook" of which many you do not need to be in a class to get the benefit. As others have mentioned you will never know the correct answers if you are not a paying student. For me it was a very pricey waste of money since it is not a stand alone book for study. While the first few chapters could be helpful I would not recommend it without an instructor using the book in class.If you are a student where this book is used, I can see where it would be very helpful and make learning certain things easier. A review mentioned the word fun where indeed I can see with this book that would be a good description. Still baffled why it came from Belgrade?
I rented this book and, as other reviewers have said, when renting you don't have access to the online coursemate, which would be very beneficial if you are taking a class on the subject. The book itself is good, well presented and easy to read, although there are some spelling errors. Also, the book arrived in used condition. I returned it in the same used condition and now they are charging me full price for "damaged goods". I don't recommend renting this text, just purchase it at your local school bookstore.
I ordered this as a rental for kindle (I used it on my PC) as a backup to my text book, which I bought new from the school book store. The class was offered online, so the search option from the kindle version is very helpful especially for timed tests. I have found that the book has also been especially helpful in a few of my other veterinary technician classes, using it as reference quite a few times. The included CD is OK (which is why I'm giving this 4 instead of 5 stars), it doesn't contain all of the references that the book does and some of the words didn't have the same descriptions that were offered in the book, although I did find the games helpful. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, both the online and the book earned me an A in veterinary terminology.
I love this book. It does not have the answers and I had called about it but because I am using it for my own use and not involved as a student with Cengage Learning I could not get them. Other wise it works for me.
This book does not have the CD required for accessing the CourseMate online study tools. This fact is not explained clearly either in the product description or the book itself. It has great questions, case studies, and crosswords at the end of each chapter but does not have the answers anywhere in the book. You either have to get the Instructor's Manual, CourseMate or hope the instructor will provide the answers. I bought this book in advance to prepare for the class starting in September, but without the answers it is challenging to know if you have a true understanding. The book is easy to read, and presented nicely, but without the back up of CourseMate or answers to the questions it is limited. I believe you can purchase the CourseMate CD separately for $150, that is not in my budget.
Colored textbook with activities at the end of each chapter. Only bad thing is there's no answer keys for those.
This was a required book for my veterinary technology program, and this is a MUST HAVE book! It's so easy to read and understand the vocabulary required to succeed in veterinary programs. There are more than enough human medical terms mixed in, too, to help you make the connection if you need it. I will be keeping this book around as a reference far beyond graduation and as I launch into this exciting career field.
